Uniswap Foundation Unveils Uniswap v4 Launch Strategy

The Uniswap Foundation has officially disclosed plans for the rollout of Uniswap v4, slated for release in Q3 2024.

The Uniswap Foundation, the driving force behind the decentralized finance (DeFi) juggernaut Uniswap (UNI), has lifted the veil on its upcoming Uniswap v4, set to follow the imminent Dencun upgrade on Ethereum's mainnet.

In a statement shared on X, the Foundation outlined the roadmap for the forthcoming version 4 (v4) launch, currently navigating through a crucial 'Code Freeze' phase. This phase encompasses finalizing core code, rigorous testing, gas usage optimization, security bolstering, and peripheral component fine-tuning.

The roadmap ahead includes subjecting v4's code to exhaustive audits by esteemed professional audit firms alongside a community-driven audit competition, with the objective of making Uniswap v4 the epitome of meticulously scrutinized code ever deployed on the Ethereum ecosystem. Furthermore, the protocol is slated for deployment on a testnet to iron out any final adjustments.

The Uniswap Foundation tentatively plans to unveil Uniswap v4 on the Ethereum mainnet in the third quarter of 2024, contingent upon the progression of the Dencun upgrade on Ethereum.

The Dencun upgrade for Ethereum is primed to go live on the mainnet in March, heralding the arrival of proto-danksharding and blobs, aimed at substantially slashing transaction costs on layer 2 networks.

This deployment swiftly followed a successful implementation on the Holesky testnet, preceded by two other test networks, all without a hitch. The Dencun upgrade introduces proto-danksharding and implements blob transactions, empowering layer 2 networks to leverage more Ethereum block space.

Blob transactions, akin to their conventional counterparts, feature an additional data segment. The upgrade caps blobs per block at 16, with each not exceeding 128 KB, aggregating to approximately 2 megabytes of block space.

This expanded block space proves advantageous for both optimistic and zero-knowledge rollups, enabling them to place transaction data commitments on-chain while housing the actual data in data blobs, rather than call data. This innovative approach is poised to enhance transaction efficiency and affordability significantly.
